Zion explores some new ways to pray!

We had a good turn out for our last Lenten Program where we learned some different ways to pray.  Participants created their own Mandala (pictures to follow!) learned about Journaling as a prayer form, and learned how to use  Centering Prayer and Praying the Scriptures to connect more closely with God. It is my hope that you all will add these prayer methods to your “spiritual tool box” as you strive to deepen your prayer life.  Thanks for the chance to share these spiritual disciplines with you!  Pastor Barb

Sunday Evening Lenten Programs

Submitted by: Worship & Music Committee

  • This year our evening Lenten programs will have a church “family” focus. We hope that you will use this time as an opportunity for new beginnings as we grow in faith.
  • Each program will begin at 5:00pm in the education building.
  • After a brief opening, families with children up to 5th grade are invited to explore activity centers with a Lenten theme in the children’s Sunday School area.
  • Middle school and high school youth will have the opportunity to explore God’s word through a video lesson.
  • Adults will have the opportunity to connect with each other through an interactive Bible study.
  • A special offering for Lutheran World Relief – Haiti Crisis will be collected each week.
  • A fellowship meal will begin at 5:45pm each Sunday evening. A sign up sheet for desserts and clean-up will be available on the entrance table in the education building and church building.
  • There will be five Lenten Sunday programs with the last one on March 21st.

Lutheran Youth Organization News

February Highlights
Thanks to all who supported “Souper Bowl of Caring” on February 7th. We collected $261.85 for Manna House! We ended this special day with a great Super Bowl pizza party. We had fun watching the commercials, playing games and watching the game! Youth also enjoyed an evening of games, movies, popcorn, snacks, Rock Band and staying up all night at our Zion lock-in! Thanks to all who joined in the fun.

Crucifer/Acolyte/Cleaning Assignments Reminder
All youth and parents are asked to check the newsletter for crucifer, acolyte and cleaning assignments. If you are not able to serve as acolyte or crucifer on your assigned Sunday, please contact Mary Lou Barnes (728-3260) or Dana Lee by Wednesday. This will insure that the correct information is in the bulletin. These are important jobs for Sunday morning worship and we need to make sure that everyone is doing their part. Also, please remember that Pastor Barb requests that you meet in her office at 10:50am for a brief time of prayer on your assigned Sunday.
Dana Lee is continuing to schedule cleaning assignments. Both the church and education building are now being cleaned every other week. Because we have decreased the number of scheduled cleanings, it is very important that youth clean on their assigned weeks. If you cannot clean on your assigned week, please let Dana Lee know by Wednesday so that other arrangements can be made. Also, please check the church calendar to see when the building will be in use during the week you are assigned. This is a great way for us to provide a needed service to our church.

Children’s Choir

The Children’s Choir has been working hard learning their music for Lent and Holy Week. Besides every Sunday morning, the children will also be singing for both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services at 8:00 p.m. Parents, please have your child at church for those two special services. Thank you to the choir members for their good singing on Ash Wednesday and each Sunday morning. One of our greatest joys in worship is hearing our children praise God in song!
