Evangelism will be holding “Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, October 30th from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm. This event is going to be great fun! Not only will there be a prize for the Best Decorated Trunk, but also awards for the Best Costume, for Children, Youth and Adults! We will also show cartoons on our Big Screen, offer games, contests and even a petting zoo! Please come and join in the fun. Invite your friends and neighbors. As everyone can guess, we really need volunteers to help with contests and games. Please contact Amber Hall if you can help.
On November 5th starting at 7:30 PM will be our next movie night. We will be showing “How To Train Your Dragon” with plenty of your favorite movie snacks. Come join us for another great movie night.
This year our 11:00 a.m. Reformation Service will be particularly special in that we will baptize Bradley Wade, the infant son of Wade & Mandy Zipperer, and will confirm three of our youth: Anna Lee & Christian HeidtHarris and Autumn Conaway. This is a high festival of the Church, so the color of the day is RED! Every year, the Lutheran churches of the Ebenezer Conference join together to celebrate our Lutheran Heritage in a Joint Reformation Service. Last year, Zion was pleased to host the service. This year’s service will be hosted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Garden City, at 4:00 p.m., October 31st. This is always a most meaningful worship for we who continue in the footsteps of the great reformers of the Church. We hope you will come and represent Zion, and join in our joy as we thank God for his Church, and greet our Lutheran brothers and sisters in Christ in fellowship after the service.
Thanks to everyone that spent countless hours on our inagural entry in the Effingham County Fair Parade. All the hard work paid off with a FIRST PLACE showing in our category. Thanks to all those that rode, sang, waved, walked, and handed out event fliers during the parade route.

Today (October 17, 2010) we joined with churches across the country to observe Bread for the World Sunday. Moved by God’s grace in Jesus Christ, we pray for all of those who suffer from hunger and want, and we rededicate ourselves to ending hunger in God’s world.

UPDATE: The kids had a great time and love their bibles.
On Sunday, October 10th at 9:45 our preschool class will be joining the rest of our Sunday School classes in Fellowship Hall. Each preschool family will be given its own copy of the new Spark Story Bible that coordinates with the new curriculum we are using. After the presentation, parents are invited to join their child in our preschool area for a lesson, family project, snack, singing and playground time.
We have a lot of fun learning about God and the Bible and we are very grateful to the Christian Education committee for the gift of these Storybook Bibles. Come join us; we love to make new friends!
This year Zion will have not only our traditional fair booth (click to see pictures of past booths) but we will also be entering a float in the parade! Our youth are working on the booth on Sunday, October 10th. If you would like to help with the float we will be working on it at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 13th at the church. And don’t forget the parade is on Monday, October 18th at 5pm (full fair schedule here). Come help Zion make a splash at the fair this year.
On Sunday, September 19th, Zion celebrated 138 years of ministry in our community. Over 150 people joined the celebration which included a baptism, new member reception and joyful worship with an abundance of children singing about wanting “to make a difference in our world.” After the service, a long line of hungry folks made their way to our beautifully decorated Fellowship Hall where they were served a delicious buffet luncheon by our hospitality committee. We recognized those who had been a part of the Zion family during the milestones in their lives. Two long tables laden with homemade desserts concluded our meal and fellowship time together. Old and new friends were able to laugh and share stories and set the tone for the next wonderful years that we will have together as a congregational family. As we left the Fellowship Hall, we could see the beautifully kept church building and grounds and the new playground area and future prayer labyrinth.
The Worship and Music Committee would like to deeply thank the many volunteers who made our Anniversary Sunday such a success. There is a great deal of planning, coordinating and hard work involved and everywhere we turned there were willing hands doing all the big and small tasks that make a celebration a success and a church a family!
