On 7/29/12, we had sunday school promotion for our young students. We also blessed the students backpacks for a successful school year. We also heard from our youth that attended the National Youth Gathering and had a great skit by Mya and one of our youth. Click on the photo below to see all the pictures.
Please pray for Pastor Barb as she recovers from a snake bite she received on Sunday night, July 22nd.
Your prayers are working. We are anticipating that Pastor Barb will be discharged from Memorial this afternoon, July 25th. Please contact Bob at 663-3469 for good times to visit. Please continue prayers for healing at home.

Six ladies have signed up to attend this year’s Southeastern Synod Women of the ELCA convention at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA on September 14-16, 2012. The convention theme is “Rejoice in the Lord Always”. Attending convention is a wonderful way to meet and connect with other ladies from our synod, discover the amazing things we accomplish together as Women of the ELCA, and rejuvenate your soul and spirit.
Each year, our leaders select a special in-kind offering to be taken at convention that benefits a program located near our convention site. This year’s recipient is Wellspring Living in Atlanta, GA. In 2001, Wellspring Living, a 501(c) (3) organization, formed to help survivors of childhood sexual abuse overcome their broken pasts and move towards hopeful futures. Their mission is to confront the issue of childhood sexual abuse and exploitation through advocacy, education and treatment programs for girls and women. Their programs are a refuge for women and girls who need a chance to start over. Through therapy, education, life skills and spiritual renewal, the Wellspring programs give participants recovery tools for the body, soul and spirit.
Wellspring has requested donations of gift cards to purchase toilet paper, paper towels and household cleaning supplies. They welcome gift cards from Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger, etc… If you would like to donate, please give gift cards to Dana Lee Smith. Anyone can make a donation – even if you are not attending convention!
Ladies, please check the Zionews calendar page and make plans to join in one of our Bible study opportunities. If you’re not sure which one fits your needs, you are invited to visit each group.
As Dana and Dana send back pics from the event, we will be posting them on our Facebook page, click on the picture below to be taken to the full album:

“Citizens With the Saints” Anna HeidtHarris, Christian HeidtHarris, Alex Peth and Dana & Dana Lee Smith will attend the ELCA National Youth Gathering on July 18th-22nd, 2012 in New Orleans, LA. Thanks to all who helped in raising funds to attend by supporting our Youth for Hire program and other fundraisers. We are grateful for such a supportive church family! This event only happens every 3 years and hosts approximately 30,000 youth and leaders. The Gathering program is built around three core practices in which participants will be immersed. These core practices are discipleship, peacemaking and justice. Part of this experience will include service to others as we continue working to assist with recovery efforts associated with Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf oil spill. Each day of the Gathering, thousands of youth will be out serving others. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make such a large impact and truly make a difference on such a large scale. The event will also provide opportunities for us to experience worship and renewal through daily gatherings. Please pray for safe travels and pray that the Holy Spirit will lead and guide us in this experience!

A note from Pastor Barb. To My Zion Family, I wanted to thank all of you for your kind words, cards and prayers for me and my family as we walk with my sister, Alice, who is battling cancer. Now, my mother, Janet, is hospitalized with heart problems, and is in need of prayers as well. I will be making short trips to West Virginia to see them both as my sister’s illness progresses, and appreciate your prayers and understanding during this difficult time for me and Bob. I thank God for you every day! Blessings, Pastor Barb <><
Thank you to the LYO for the “kisses” you handed out on both Mother’s Day & Father’s Day! You are sooo sweet!
A BIG “THANK YOU” to Joy Hutcheson, Rebecca Heidt and April Smith for leading our VBS program this year. Thank you all for creating another year of a terrific Vacation Bible School for our children to learn about God and Jesus!
