October 28, 1937 – November 06, 2017

Marlow – Edwin “Clayton” Dasher, 80, passed away November 6, 2017 at his home.

The Effingham County native retired from CSX Transportation where he worked for 44 years. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on church council, sang in the choir and served in various other capacities. He was a 50 year member of Guyton Masonic Lodge. Clayton was active in scouting throughout most of his life. He was a former Scout Master for Troop 691 of Marlow, GA. He also served on behalf of Zion as the Charter Representative for Club Scout Pack 691 and Troop 691. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his work in scouting and he was a part of the Coastal Empire’s first scouting Wood Badge class. Clayton served on the board of the Effingham County Fair and he served as a board member for the Effingham County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Ebenezer Trustees, a member of the Effingham County Historical Society and a volunteer with Ebenezer Alive. Clayton enjoyed spending time outside and he was known for making cane syrup.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Maude Conaway Dasher; sisters, Leona Helmey and Sarah Hamaker; brother, James Dasher.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Emma Lee Zipperer Dasher; daughter, Dana Lee Dasher (Dana) Smith; grandson, Evan Smith; brother, Lowell (Naomi) Dasher; sister-in-law, Martell (Mike) Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church. Mr. Dasher will lie in state from 3 p.m.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to Zion Lutheran Church, 121 Noel C. Conaway Rd., Guyton, GA 31312. Remembrances may also be given to Cub Scout Pack 691 or Boy Scout Troop 691, 121 Noel C. Conaway Rd., Guyton, GA 31312.

Guyton-Ms. Priscilla Kitchens Keen, 64, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Hospice Savannah. Priscilla was born in Washington, GA to the late Medford Kitchens & Katherine Kitchens Benson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Kitchens, and her step-father, Robert Benson. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and employed at The Learning Treehouse. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include three children, Dana Smith (Dana Lee), Karla Keen Vance (Ed), and Jessica Keen; grandchildren, Evan Smith, Jude Merchant, and Nicholas Vance; sister, Cindy Simons (Tony); brothers, Glen Kitchens (Paula), Billy Kitchens (Darlene), Tommy Kitchens, and Ricky Kitchens. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be after the service. Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Once again, Boy Scout Troop 691 is teaming up with Zion to create a frighteningly fun Haunted Trail at Zion! The Haunted Trail will be open on Friday and Saturday before Halloween, October 25 and 26, and the spooking will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m. both nights. Admission is free, but, of course, donations are accepted.

Our beloved Minnie Lee Helmey Zipperer, “Mama Minnie” passed away yesterday evening.

Funeral Arrangements are as follows:

Viewing will be at Strickland Funeral Home in Rincon on Saturday Evening, November 12, from 6-8 pm.

Funeral Service will be at Zion Lutheran Church on Sunday, November 13th, at 3 pm.

Minnie Lee Helmey “Mama Minnie” Zipperer Guyton – Minnie Lee Helmey “Mama Minnie” Zipperer, 94, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Effingham Care Center.

Mrs. Zipperer was born in Marlow on October 21, 1917 to the late Ward Leroy Helmey and Emma Amelia Fetzer, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, John Henry Zipperer, son, John Roland Zipperer, sister, Hilda Collins, brothers, Leroy, George, Harley, Walton, and Ralph.

She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was in women’s W.E.L.C.A, member of the Graduate Sunday School, and previously taught Sunday School. She was a homemaker, kept numerous children in her home for many years, and was a seamstress. She was an active member of the Marlow Farm Bureau, a member of the Effingham County Fair Association, and was active in P.T.A. for many years.

Survivors include her children Emma Lee Dasher (Clayton) and Martell Hall (Micheal) all of Guyton; daughter-in-law, Brenda Pack (Larry) of Ellabell; grandchildren, Holly Zipperer of Hatfield, PA, Wade Zipperer (Mandy) of Guyton, Adam Pack (Daniella) of Pooler, Richard Hall (Karen), Melissa H. Osteen (David), Dana Lee D. Smith (Dana) all of Guyton; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clifford Jackson, Ellen Danker, Bessie Studier; brother, Jack Helmey; sisters-in-law, Wilma Helmey and Ollie Mae Zipperer all of Guyton.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Effingham Care Center who helped with her care. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church. Mrs. Zipperer will lie in state from 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
