Some of our outreach activities include:
Manna House – The Manna House serves as a Christian organization designed to assist in providing food, clothing, household items and other assistance to those in need in Effingham County. We provide aid through coordination with area churches, social service agencies, and emergency services.
Treutlen House – Through Christian nurture, education, love, counsel, and prayer, the Treutlen House programs will lead children, teens and families in crisis to a wholeness in spirit, mind, and body, so that they may be more productive to themselves, their family, their community and their world.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Zion supports the Scouts in our neighborhood by providing them with a fun place to gather for meetings, fund raising events and Scouting events, like the Pinebox Derby. The Scouts gather in the “Scout Hut” on our property, have use of our kitchen facilities for Fund Raiser meals, and use Zion as a soda can collection site for added income. Each year, Zion recognizes its Scouts and their leaders with a Scout Sunday, in which the Scouts worship with us and tell us of their accomplishments for the year.
AA Meetings – Monday evenings at 7:00, AA meets in the Zion Fellowship Hall. As a communtiy of faith, Zion recognizes the extreme difficulty persons face in breaking a dependency on alcohol, and understands the need for supportive relationships in order to succeed. Zion believes that Jesus Christ came to free people from anything that holds them captive, and is happy to assist people in their desire to be free from unhealthy habits.
Senior Citizens – Zion has an active, ongoing ministry to the elderly in our community. Once a month, members of Zion prepare a delicious hot meal, with a birthday cake for those celebrating birthdays that month. There is generally an educational presentation of interest to seniors from area agencies and organizations. There are also outings, such as to the Mighty 8th Airforce Museum, in which we use the Zion Bus to carry folks to events.
K-5 After School Program – The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month, children from the neighboring elementary school ride the school bus to Zion, where they have a snack, sing songs, make a craft project, play games or do their homework,. At 5:15, they are joined by their parents and other members of Zion for a full meal followed by Bible Study for all ages. This is a great way to get to know some of the folks at Zion better!
Lutheran Services of Georgia – Lutheran Services of Georgia is a social service agency which combines the resources of staff, financial donors, various governmental agencies, volunteers, and Lutheran congregations in its efforts to bring quality programs and services to the people of Georgia. They have a facebook group as well.
Habitat For Humanity – Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County was founded on the idea of helping those in need. Since their organization was established, they have endeavored to provide help where the need is greatest. Their team is made up entirely of volunteers. They advocate for those who need our help. Even a little help goes a long way.
